“It’s a great pleasure for me to be in this stage where the best artists always play. I’m thankful to my good friend Maestro Sergey Smbatyan for giving me this opportunity to be on this stage together with the State Youth Orchestra of Armenia”,-said Maxim Vengerov, the world famous violinist to the audience and he received a standing ovation yesterday evening. The artist was in Yerevan to perform for the gala-concert of Armenia International Music Festival and Competition.
“Take my congratulations for the conclusion of the first Armenia Festival-Competition which is famous hereinafter. This is not just a Competition-Festival, but a good platform for the artists. Today we met the winners of the competition and I hope we’ll hear those names which will shine in near future. As a bis I will play Bach Sarabande and we will pray together for peace in this sunny region”,-said Vengerov and gave an unforgettable sounds to the audience who didn’t want to leave the hall.
Maxim Vengerov and the State Youth Orchestra together opened the concert with the, Debussy’s “Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune” Symphonic Poem. Under the audience’s countinous applaud Maxim Vengerov came to the stage. The conductor of the concert was Sergey Smbatyan. The musicians played the “Violin Concerto” of Brams and the the “Lonely Sail” of Alexey Shor, the composer-in-residence of the festival
Sergey Smbatyan, the artistic director of the festival says the concert is a great success for them. Armenia competition and festival is coming to the end, Maestro Vengerov is in Armenia. All of us are excited: me, the orchestra and the whole team. The fact that we had a competition-festival relevant to the International standards is an important achievement. I’m grateful to the all artists who came to Armenia. We had a unique jury which tried to find that talent whose name you’ll hear in future”.
The organizers of the 1st “Armenia” International Festival and Competition which was held in Yerevan from 4 to 12 July, were the State Youth Orchestra of Armenia and European Foundation for Support of Culture. It was held with the support of RA Ministry of Culture. The event was held under the high patronage of the first lady of the RA Rita Sargsyan.
