The AGBU hall hosted a concert of Abgar Muradyan Duo (Lilit Zakaryan: piano, Davit Gyulamiryan: clarinet), the ensemble of State Youth Orchestra of Armenia. The concert was organized within the framework of the “Armenia” International Festival and Competition. Compositions by Johannes Brahms, Camile Saint-Saens, Eduard Baghdasaryan, Claude Debussy, Francis Poulenc were presented. Clarinetist Davit Gyulamiryan noted: “Within the framework of festivals concerts are being organized. They can be thematic or not. Meanwhile our festival has already had a comprehensive meaning in its name. Within the framework of the “Armenia” International Festival world known musicians perform, only high level classical music is presented. We are very glad to be part of the International festivals like “Armenia”, Khachaturian festival. The Khachaturian International Festival has already gained international recognition and respect. I wish a good start and green path also to the 1st “Armenia” International Festival and Competition. Another project will be completed in just a few days. And the most delightful thing is that it’s real to organize such a high level project in our small country which is relevant to international standards and could create an interest among the connoisseurs of the classical music within a short period of time”. On 9 July, 2017 the Principal Conductor and Artistic Director of State Youth Orchestra of Armenia Sergey Smbatyan performed with the Orchestra of the Komische Oper Berlin. The concert was organized within the framework of the Choriner Opernsommer festival. It’s a very prestigious festival held in Germany with more than 50 years history. The festival takes place in cloister of Chorin Abbey in Chorin based in 1258. This architectural monument is considered a place where many cultural events take place. The Choriner Opernsommer festival hosts very famous artists and orchestras from all over the world. The program of the concert included the Piano Concerto No. 9 of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Symphony No. 3 of Ludwig van Beethoven. The soloist was famous German pianist Martin Stadtfeld, the fourfold Echo Klassik prize winner. This was the first cooperation of the conductor and the Orchestra. The Komische Oper Berlin is a famous German opera company based in Berlin. It was founded in 1947. The orchestra of the theatre was headed by such ha famous conductors as Otto Klemperer, Václav Neumann, Kurt Masur, Kirill Petrenko, Fabio Luisi, etc. The repertoire of Berlin’s Komische Oper is comprehensive: many international premieres were entrusted to the orchestra.
The 2nd round of the piano competition within the framework of the “Armenia” International Festival and Competition started on July 10. 20 pianists will present their performing art and will compete for the prizes. On July 8 Aram Khachaturian House-Museum hosted a concert of the Khachaturian Trio. The trio presented compositions by Ludwig van Beethoven, Alexey Shor, Antonín Dvořák. A concert dedicated to the conductor Gevorg Muradyan’s 70th anniversary taking place at Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall on July 9. Headed by Gevorg Muradyan the Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra performed. During the concert famous pianist Nareh Arghamanyan (Austria) performed with the Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra. Compositions by Richard Wagner, Alexey Shor, Gioachino Rossini, Edgar Hovhannisyan, Grigor Yeghiazaryan, Karen Ananyan, Aram Khachaturian, Melik Mavisakalyan were presented. The world premiere of the “Travel Notebook” Concerto for Piano and Orchestra by the composer-in-residence of the Festival and Competition Alexey Shor took place during the concert. Nareh Arghamanyan and the orchestra together presented the composition. The names of the pianists who passed to the 2nd round of the “Armenia” International Competition are published. From July 10 20 pianists representing France, Poland, China, South Korea, Russia, Kirgizstan, Georgia, Armenia will perform in the 2nd round and will compete for the prizes. The jury chairman, pianist, Professor Armen Babakhanyan noted that the 4-day hearings of the competition were very interesting. “We have many high level contestants, who present different schools. We have performers from Armenian, German, Austrian, American music schools, from very respected universities. The program is free. The contestants present mini concerts, and we have a chance to see how the musician builds a music program”. A concert entitled “Yerevan Sounds” took place yesterday within the framework of the “Armenia” Festival and Competition at Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall. The State Youth Orchestra of Armenia, headed by conductor Sergey Smbatyan, performed with the best performers of the “Yerevan Sounds” 10th competition-festival of Yerevan music and art schools. Piano competition is held within the framework of the “Armenia” International Festival and Competition and 48 pianists from 14 countries participate in it. Ketevan Chkhartishvili (Georgia) is one of the contestants. She graduated from Tbilisi State Conservatory. The pianist is laureate of many international competitions. She said that she was nervous before the performance; she will try to be focused and do her best while performing in front of the jury. The young pianist wished good luck to the all of the contestants! On July 5 the State Youth Orchestra of Armenia performed with cellist Narek Hakhnazaryan within the framework of the “Armenia” International Festival and Competition. Pieces by Maltese composer Alexey Shor (he is the composer-in-residence of the festival, during the concerts his compositions will be performed), Camile Saint-Saens, Sergei Prokofiev were presented. The orchestra performed headed by conductor Sergey Smbatyan. Referring to the piano competition within the “Armenia” International Festival and Competition, Sergey Smbatyan mentioned that he had already talked to the jury members and they had already listened to very talented musicians. “We will be able to express the opinion about the competition in the end of it. But the fact that 48 pianists from 14 countries are participating in competition states –it’s an accomplished international competition. The 1st “Armenia” International Festival and Competition launched on July 4 at Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall. The Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra, headed by Eduard Topchjan, presented compositions by Alexey Shor, Niccolo Paganini, Anton Bruckner. Famous violinist Roman Kim performed as soloist. The Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra Eduard Topchjan talked about the “Armenia” festival and competition “This is a wonderful event. “Armenia” International Music Festival and Competition, which is taking place in Yerevan from July 4 to July 12, will keep up a strong competition and many famous musicians will participate in it. The organizers of the festival and competition had a press conference at Armenpress conference hall. The Artistic Director of the “Armenia” International Music Festival and Competition Sergey Smbatyan noted that this is a huge project with its content and mission. World famous violinist Maxim Vengerov will perform together with the State Youth Orchestra of Armenia, headed by conductor Sergey Smbatyan. The concert will be held on July 12 at Aram Khachaturian concert hall at the gala concert of the Armenia International Festival and Competition. Vengerov is awarded Grammy (twice), Gramophone Award UK, Edison Award, Echo Klassik Award, Amadeus Prize Best Recording, Brit Award, Prix de la Nouvelle and other prizes. The orchestra will perform Symphonic Poem “Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune” by Claude Debussy, Violin Concerto by Johannes Brahms, “Lonely Sail” for Violin and Orchestra by Alexey Shor.
On June 28 Aram Khachaturian concert hall hosted a unique symphony concert! The State Youth Orchestra presented compositions by Aaron Copland, Claude Debussy, Takashi Yoshimatsu, Fabian Panisello. Jaroslaw Nadrzycki (violin), Maria Nemtsova (piano), Vitaly Vatulya (alto saxophone), Boris Allakhverdyan (clarinet) and Khachik Andreasyan (piano) performed as soloists. The orchestra was headed by conductors Sergey Smbatyan and Fabian Panisello during the concert. Panisello headed the orchestra to perform his own compositions – Violin Concerto and Movements for Piano and Orchestra. They were presented in Armenia for the first time. Conductor and composer Fabian Panisello said it has been very interesting to work with the State Youth Orchestra of Armenia, which is always interested in studyng something new and implementing new projects. That’s why the cooperation with the orchestra was very effective. The concert was organized with the cooperation of Embassy of the Argentine Republic in Armenia and the support of Adam Mickiewicz Institute. The ambassador of Argentina to Armenia Gonzalo Urriolabeitia mentioned that such concerts strengthen bilateral ties. “We are presenting you a concert which is performed by Armenian and Argentine conductors . They mark the friendly relations between the two countries with their performance”,-the ambassador added. Fabian Panisello (Argentine) is one of the most popular and famous composers. Berlin Sympony, BBC Symphony, Spanish National Orchestra and other famous collectives and artists presented his compositions. Soloists Maria Nemtsova, Vitaly Vatulya, Boris Allakhverdyan were in Armenia within the framework of the “Musicians for peace” project.
